I am fortunate to work with many visionaries: artists, writers, business leaders, and change-makers. Naturally this presents an opportunity to go far beyond the standard studio headshot. In the process, a whole new creative process opens up between the subject and the photographer – virtually all unpredictable and guaranteed to be uniquely expressive of the person I am shooting. This type of work really excites me!
I recently was invited to Maui to shoot emerging Maui artist Shane Robinson. He is an abstract photographer and painter, who does amazing work moving back and forth from traditional tools of paint and canvas to modern tools of iPhones and apps. We had the luxury of two full days of shooting, capturing traditional head shots, FACEBOOK cover shots, editorial shots, and some wildly creative “artist as subject” together with his art. On day two we collaborated with another Maui artist, Cudra, who did the body painting on Shane. The painter was painted and photographed!
